The thing the movies never show you is that even through wars, invasions, climate apocalypse, rise of fascism, pandemic, loss... You still have to work and pay rent. Status quo and work as usual has an almost unshakable inertia.

Tw Weight loss Last year I came back from Christmas sick and I don't know if it's related but I completely lost my appetite for more than a month so I lost a lot of weight and because I had gotten used to reduced portions and skipping meals I continued loosing weight during the year.

So the Cardassian culture has scientists and engineers be mainly women. YET Cardassian culture is highly patriarchal and sexist. So we ca imagine that for Cardassian science has little cultural value. Which considering the fact they are a military Junta completely tracks.
