"Bluesky having no algorithm" Is NOT a flaw.
All it takes to find new artists is to just visit an artist's page, look at their likes and/or reposts and see if you like some of the artists. You need no algorithm doing it for you.
That's how Tumblr had been uniting artists, until its fall in 2018.

At times it has let me easily find out about amazing artists, but other times it will shove posts with a mix of reaction/rage-baiting with slurs and politics, and honestly I REALLY hate it when Twitter shows me that side of itself
Once over 100 in the watch list, finding new ones is a natural and sort of logarithmic process. People you like, repost others close enough to your interests and random gems. It accumulates with time!
I enjoy bluesky's Algorithm-less approach.
Seeking people out feels so natural.
Not even Tumblr allowed this
another thing X shadowbans for
"I want to see some game dev posts alright now some cool art okay what've my friends been looking at" without having to type hashtags into a search bar every time is wonderful
Moderate but active! And honestly I enjoy that. Especially interactions.
Basically he went full "Futurama Bender" mode
You found one artist website, and you followed who they linked… etc.
It’s how I found jaxer.
Like cars. Automatic shifts are comfy but they limit the way you feel the car. Manual shift is more difficult to drive, but you have 100% control of your car.
To each their own I guess!
There’s the default „discovery“ feed, but also being able to create and choose custom algorithms through feeds is, like, THE (pretty much only) reason people are choosing this site over Mastodon as a Twitter alternative
how does bsky's discover feed work? just showing you things similar to what you've already interacted with?
without an algorithm you are never found either, with one you are drowned out
i have never seen anyone on the internet, ever look at someone elses likes
So much IG sells exposure.
No more thumbs up or cute little hearts
Return to verbal/written communication...
On that note, Bluesky HAS an algorithm. It's just a really slow learner. Keep at the feedback and it does start to get there.
also #’s do work well from my experience here! works like old twitter!
I always go through 4 different feeds at the top with Mutuals, Folllowing, Discover and Popular with friends and I always find new artists just organically.
As long as people interact with stuff you will see it.
up till now, I assumed it did, just based on what my main feed looks like
It's like getting used to an automatic transmission car and trying to get back to a manual one. It's harder, but not necessarily "worse".
Sometimes, to have more control over your own environment, you HAVE to put your hands in it.
But Feeds are "algorithms", "Discover" adapts itself to what you interact with most.
But we can make our own, which is amazing.
Am I stupid or did something change because I thought likes are private on Bluesky [unless you use GreySky but idk who still uses that since gifs work here]
Maybe that's why? People just want that done for them instead of doing themselves. Idk.
"Discover" belongs to "algorithms", it's not an "Algorithm". 😝
A single algorithm can be composed of multiple algorithms.
There are several types like nested, recursive, hierarchical and meta algorithms.
YEAH. THAT'S THE DAMN POINT.
You make your feed and it works pretty much like the bell on youtube... but not for all your profile, just on what responds to a specific theme you call through hashtag
😉
and reskeet artists, simple as

But yeah, to this day, I find most of mine from the ones I follow sharing their stuff.
Keep making art.
