Something I want to point out for people here.

The Median salary in Indiana (Listed at 206k/year) is around 54k per adult. In order to make ends meet, you have to earn almost DOUBLE the median salary.

I started working on an affordability map a while ago when wife and I were looking for a state to move to. Yeah, it may cost less to live there but the minimum wage is probably the lowest in the country as well. Also, the education in the cheapest states is sub par.
So there's that.

I did the same, husband and I will both be retired soon. The most concerning issue for us both was healthcare, not just affordability but access to specialized care and treatments. Moving to a red state would be like signing our own death certificates. Decided to stay where we are for now.

No one hates the ACA more than the people that depend on it the most.
We went through a bunch of things. There were maybe 5 defining factors that we looked at and ended up crossing off almost every red state and were left with almost all blue states and two swing states.
