I only recently (via a book about witchcraft in puritan New England) learned that there was/is a massive schism within Christianity about whether Jesus went to hell between crucifixion and resurrection. Mad bastards
It's part of the Apostle's Creed, so quite commonly known amongst those who have had to recite that frequently (such as Catholics).
Some versions have the line written as "he descended to the dead" rather than "he descended into hell", so for sure some denominations prefer to gloss over it ^^
In a genuine conversation with a work colleague in about 2003 he asked me what happened on Good Friday so I told him. He then said “Wow! I thought it was the day David beat Goliath which was, you know, pretty good!”
It's the same numbering confusion that means nobody can agree if Twelfth Night is that of January 5th or 6th, and hence when you take down your decorations. Because technically the First Day of Christmas is Christmas Day but that always feels kinda unintuitive - just like the "third day" at Easter 🐣
Estimates are the Romans crucified between 100,000 to 150,000 people.
The bible, written long after, translated to death and edited with extreme bias for heading for a couple of millennia is the only evidence an "actual historical figure" was raised from the dead after.
If he's gonna be a bible bore he could at least get it right.
1. If he means metaphorical hell then he was already dead by Saturday anyway
2. If he means literal Hell it's nowhere in the Bible
3. Matthew 27:46 -- And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “lol. lmao.”

Is that why we skip over it?

That was the point of them doing it to people.

Maybe eating a protein bar, practicing on smaller rocks first.
