We had all the words used as insults. I didn’t say defer to me, I said learn history and what people endured before you. I learned what the people who preceded me suffered so I could make a world where you you can find support at the stroke of a pen (figuratively)

The thing is though, I did learn history (I’m a historian in some of my time so it’s kind of required of me) and a lot of it is suffering, but there’s also joy. And the word queer was part of that joy as well as part of the suffering. And has become part of the joy again. I think that’s quite nice.
