Is it good? I don't know anymore, it has consumed my mental space for the past two years, I am but a shell of a writer. It is, however, the largest source of information about how debuggers work that has been written (afaik)

If you have an x64-based Mac, definitely. If it has an M1 or M2 chip and you don't feel comfortable translating some of the x64 details to ARM, it'd be a struggle.

What about using containers w/x86 emulation/VM on apple silicon? Or at that point maybe it makes more sense to just use a VM/do the ARM translation work…

Unfortunately the solutions for x64 emulation don't implement ptrace, which is the main syscall for interacting with processes that you're debugging

Is that with userland per-process emulation? I imagine if you run a whole-ass x64 Linux distro in QEMU there shouldn't be issues with ptrace 🤔

Having some C++ knowledge will help for sure. However, I do explicitly show every single line of code that you'd need to write, and I explain any more advanced features of C++ that I use.

The one thing I miss a lot from the Solaris debugger is the ability to pop the stack and replay the function call again. Can we get this added to gdb?
