I look at this #lichen and wonder - alive or dead? I am content to wonder. The stone is Hamstone. Described as honey coloured, a beautiful stone much sought after through many centuries

Hamstone looks very similar to our south Warwickshire/Oxfordshire calcareous ironstone (Hornton stone), with similar lichens. Another interesting rabbit hole to investigate… Hamstone appears to be a few million years younger, but both are Early Jurassic. Lovely words: Lias, Toarcian, marlstone…
