Wow, that’s so amazing! With the urushi sap in kintsugi I know it can cause a rash kind of like poison ivy, does it have properties like this in dye form? I’m a ceramic artist and textile artist so I’m so excited that this material can cross those boundaries!

Since we're using dried chips, there's no risk of skin irritation. Urushi is an extremely useful tree😊 Moreover, the dyed fabric possesses high antibacterial and antiviral properties.

So interesting! The Toxicodendron species here in the US (poison ivy, T. radicans and poison sumac, T. vernix) can cause a rash even when dead and dried up, if someone sensitive to urushiol touches any part. I wouldn't have dreamed of dyeing fabric with either of them, but now I'm curious...
