Not sure what this refers to, but it reminds me of an interesting project a student of mine did (in an AI course!) a couple years ago on this topic. Essentially the idea was to adapt work on skin color bias in facial analysis/recognition systems to female cosmetics.

Getting your products into a high volume retail space is incredibly difficult. Target WAS a supportive venue. It is financial and business ending suicide to be emotional. Give these businesses time to find another outlet. Meanwhile buy ONLY their products from Target. Lift them up then follow them

We were the first national buyer at Kinky Curly and I personally watched how that small brand became what they are today. I have never purchased their products from Target because it’s simply not convenient for me to do so. I still support the brand and they are available everywhere.

I've also noticed CVS (well my local ones) sell a lot of the hair products target sells of black owned products. So you can buy from CVS too... plus CVS has better coupons 😏

Ex: Uncle Funkys Daughter curly gel, Taraji's line, The doux brand, etc.

This is how I kept getting pulled into Target. I saw diversity in their products, especially health and beauty care. No one else carries these on such scale.

But every time I went into the stores, it didn’t feel right. The majority of shoppers are white, female genxers. Very little diversity.
