oh boy basic gist: started out as a horrible lovecraftian nightmare worldwide civ after alien elves invaded. succeeded in turn again and again by great powers that were each less powerful until it had receded into a fantasy planet... just as capital C chaos invaded.

things were bleak, but through the sacrifice of all the gods chaos was forced to act as the world's new gods. not just feeding on souls, but actively forced to protect and nourish them. so a knight being held up by horrifying chaos to stand against something else works super good.
