Hunter Thompson was a very good investigative journalist. He wrote an expose on Hells Angels in 65. This book is not anything like that.

It wasn’t meant to be though. Investigative Journalism is something I’ve been reading more of but I don’t believe I have any Hunter Thompson. I may have to change that. Mist that I have read have been dealing with inequality, food insecurity, poverty and the prison system.

No it's not. This is like a drug-fueled dream sequence where you drift between reality, paranoid reality, and hallucinations. Very entertaining, and completely unserious. I mentioned the earlier book to recommend it before Las Vegas, so you can better grasp the meaning of "gonzo journalism "

Born I liverpool 1955. Moved to Wigan 1967. Moved to Aus in 1989. Before the 80s the buildings were derelict. Last time we went back 2023 derelict again although there are plans. There is a paper clip in the 60s from the Wigan Observer where my dad suggests that Wigan pier should be redeveloped.

That sounds awesome re the paper clip. I was there most weekends after they opened ‘the way we were’ in 1986 until I left in 1990. It was a lovely museum/tourist set up and I adored learning more about our region. I’m still a sucker for local history wherever I am.

Never read an Orwell book I didn't love but I think his non fiction is even better. Down-and-out in Paris and London & his essays like- how the poor die, killing an elephant and a Hanging,shaped me as much as anything I've ever read.l agree he's one of the greatest prose writers of the last century
