I saw it at the Cornerhouse too. My enjoyment of it was spoiled by loads of twats shuffling in late en masse over that brilliant opening credits sequence.

I *loved* the Cornerhouse not just for films but for the wonderful cafe where you could feel all sophisticated and European. So sad but so unsurprising that it's gone

Yeah, it was great. Home is fine, but it's not the same. Although they have made a nice tribute by having the staircase in the same proportion so it feels oddly familiar.

I remember coming out of there and seeing a sign announcing that the huge warehouse across the road was being turned into flats and thinking "bloody hell that'll never work" - which is why I'm not rich

Cornerhouse became part of MMU's estate. The new Home arts centre down the road became Manchester's leading arthouse cinema in its place.

I also lived there then, we were probably at some of the same screenings! It closed down (not sure why) and there is a new indy cinema / arts place called HOME now but in a different place, I’m not sure what the old Cornerhouse building is being used for (I think maybe one of the universities?)

What a place! One of the handful of spots in MCR where - as you said - you felt immediately cooler & more cerebral. I think Tarantino mentioned it in his book about being an early champion of Reservoir Dogs.

I watched a lot of films in that cinema around that time at I guess a pretty formative age, and some I don’t remember at all but scenes from MD have really stuck with me despite me being unsure about it overall at the time. Definitely felt like there was a puppet master controlling my emotions.
