I was never even slightly tempted to do the DNA sample thing, because even many years ago I knew the data could be used for all sorts of deleterious and nefarious things. Then again, Cologuard and other routione medical tests have DNA data. But genealogy sites don't have the same privacy constraints
But get a copy of it first. You can use it on GEDMAtch to compare with data bases from different part sof the world and even some ones with prehistoric genomes. You can download it from 23Andme. I did.
Good luck with that! I'd wager that ship, laden with all your ancestors' DNA, has already set sail for the high seas, in search of a port offering the best prices.
It won't let me get my DNA raw data, I've been waiting on the email for almost a week now. I want the data I paid for before I delete, but with upcoming sale I might have to delete (assuming they even delete data)
The initial optimism/ promises of large scale genetic testing - being able to contribute to possible scientific breakthroughs - were exciting. I should have known it would fall to capitalism like everything else.
Everyone should delete their date.
I really sense the information contained in that information is private. Your every bloodline? Not safe. Illess in your DNA? sounds like this too can be held against you.
Have tried four times and they never send the confirmation email. I'm on a LONG WAIT chat line (70 people ahead of me,) to try to get some kind of resolution.
Try this, worked for me: log in, wait for your code. Go ahead and enter it anyway, even though when it arrives it will be expired. Immediately try to log in again. It sent me another code right away. Not guaranteed to work, just trying to help.
It is taking quite a while to get downloads of all of your data. If you delete the data, of course there’s no way to download. Plan for a delay if you want it all.

Then there is the “you deleted it but we just flagged it hidden from you in case you changed your mind”.
