"Every Twelve Seconds" by Timothy Pachirat (with whom I recently corresponded and who is every bit as sweet and adorable as is smart and brilliant).
Pachirat's raw covert ethnography of an industrial slaughterhouse and the politics of violent labor.

I am also a public administration scholar, so citizen-state interactions are definitely of interest to me: frontline workers, street-level bureaucrats, etc.
Personally, I LOVE my own writing. I know it's not everybody's cup of tea, but I DO love it. And I work EVERY SINGLE DAY to improve my written prose.
