IR scholars: International Organization seeks short essay submissions for a special section on the current moment and the future of IR. Initial submissions are due June 15, with expected publication this fall. www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

This nifty interactive graphic of Trump’s approval rating plummeting is giving me some solace right now. As is Canada. www.economist.com/interactive/...

25 hour speak-out today and tomorrow at Columbia. I’ll be there with other political scientists talking about democracy and due process from 7-8pm

Universities need to speak out about this and push back. It’s an assault on due process, and an assault on higher ed, that will make us stupider and less secure in the future

Happy(??) Earth Day to all who celebrate!

I feel like we need to keep saying this because it’s so insane: This is a legal U.S. resident who has been detained for over a month now for his political opinions.

Their incompetence with the Harvard negotiations is bad enough, but imagine what happens when the Trump admin sends demands they weren’t supposed to send to, oh, I don’t know, Iran, or China.

🏥HHS ELIMINATIONS💀 We have created a list of all agency and program eliminations proposed in the HHS 2026 Budget. Feds: Please let us know if you have any clarity to share. The cuts are massive. Reach out if you would like a PDF or xlsx @alt-hhs.altgov.info @altfda.altgov.info

The climate emergency is ongoing, the emergency of ICE agents snatching our neighbors off our streets and sending them to gulags is, if not new, newly intensified. Hit the streets this weekend. NYC friends: Saturday, noon, Bryant Park

What’s the opposite of rolling in their grave? That’s what Joseph McCarthy is doing right now.

Feels like this is one of those tipping point things we read about in history books sometimes. www.thebulwark.com/p/bring-him-...

1/4. On the White House’s theory, if they abduct you, get you on a helicopter, get to international waters, shoot you in the head, and drop your corpse into the ocean, that is legal, because it is the conduct of foreign affairs.

So turns out Columbia has also joined this lawsuit on IC rates, but weirdly (stupidly in my view) isn’t advertising it widely. Not sure if this is strategy or just piss-poor PR

Columbia’s latest statement. I give it an A- (big points for improvement over recent statements, but still room for improvement).

Fight fiercely, Harvard, fight, fight, fight! Now will others have the courage to do the same? Looking at you, Columbia

Brief from the Presidents’ Alliance on Higher Education and more than 80 universities says arrests and deportations of student protesters create a “climate of fear” at universities across the country. This is a big deal—the first time universities have weighed in. knightcolumbia.org/documents/eh...

Glad to see institutions starting, finally, to speak up. This from AAAS, not exactly a fount of radicalism. More of this from everyone please.

Statement on the Academic Freedom and Independence of U.S. Institutions of Higher Education The American Political Science Association (APSA) is deeply concerned by recent attacks on the independence of colleges and universities in the United States. Over the past few weeks, there have been…

Some advice folks put together for international students at UCLA about visa revocations. Much of it applies to students at any school. drive.google.com/file/d/1x8_z...

Have you considered the possibility that half your 401K is too steep a price to keep that trans person off the soccer team?

Heartening turnout in NYC despite cold & rain. More pics in replies #HandsOff

Others have tried to capture the economic effects of the tariff bomb. Here’s another: Trump has destroyed US diplomacy. Forget the liberal international order. US diplomacy as we knew it is over. Thread: 1/

Very happy to have been part of this workshop. (Less happy that it has taken my 25+ hours to get home from Iowa City!

Things are so fucked up right now I couldn’t think of an April Fools to play on my family that would be funny instead of scary. But thank you Cory Booker, and voters of Wisconsin, for giving me hope.

And then he gave a still coherent interview with Madow! What a hero. Be like him. Stand up and speak out in whatever ways we can. @booker.senate.gov

California Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas (D-Salinas): "there are currently more kids with measles in Texas than there are transgender athletes in the NCAA. That's the epidemic we should all be worried about."

Is Cory Booker doing a John Lewis remembrance as he approaches breaking Strom Thurmond's record the senatorial version of Kendrick dropping a diss track on Drake? I think it is.

Time to hit the streets (Link to find non-NYC events in comments) mobilize.us/s/mWLJ7f

Canary Mission didn’t like it when I posted “L’Shana Tovah to all celebrating Rosh Hashana” so they probably won’t like this either, but still I say: Eid Mubarak to all who celebrate

Was really hoping for her sake and Columbia’s that Katrina Armstrong quit because she was sick of this shit, but this sure looks like she was forced out. This is about to get (even) worse.

As universities increasingly make decisions that make their students less safe and that compromise academic freedom, I hope their alumni remember that they can do something about it -- through their voices, their actions, and their wallets.
