The stripes are pretty, the implications are very ugly. Temps from 1850 to 2024 for Portland, Manhattan, and the world. Wanna see what it looks like where you live? Check out: showyourstripes.info

Wish Trump was thinking this way about joining the Israel-Iran war.

This effort may not raise $723 billion, but it should raise consciousness

a) excuse me while I recover from whiplash, and b) probably the only time I will ever be “published” in Science. www.science.org/content/arti...

Almost 1000 people out in little Berryville VA (population c.4500). #NoKings

This woman approvingly quoted Hitler on the morning of Jan 6 and also serves on the House committee that’s been looking into antisemitism on campus 👍

must be incredibly frustrating and disheartening to have federal funding that was promised to you for important work suddenly and arbitrarily ripped away

So glad our country is now a meritocracy!

The so called meritocracy at work…

Wait till Trump figures out what Bibi’s been doing.

Assassinating Israeli embassy staffers is an act of terrorism (as a scholar of terrorism, not a word I use lightly) that will only legitimize the right-wing in Israel — those pushing for genocide (another word I don’t use lightly) — and in the US. It’s not only abhorrent, it’s worse than senseless.

Outraged and heartbroken by the news of two young people killed last night in DC in a targeted act of antisemitic violence. This is the opposite of advancing justice and peace - it only furthers the violence, pain, and loss - and such hatred must be firmly rejected by all.

Maggie Hassan schooling Kristi Noem on meaning of habeus corpus. (Maggie’s dad, my prof, Bob Wood would have been proud. Of Maggie. Of a cabinet member this ignorant, not so much!) youtu.be/T4enZPiKgiM?...

I know we’ve all kinda gotten used to it. But still, this is the head of state of the world’s most powerful country, spending his time posting a thin-skinned, barely literate (what’s with the use of “quotes”?) rant threatening a prominent US citizen for political speech. It’s batshit crazy.

I suppose the New York Times will run daily stories on this until he resigns, unless Secretary of Defense is a less newsworthy job than a college administrator?

I’m sure the “it’s a war-zone at Columbia” narrative will dominate, but here’s what it looked like at Butler as I walked home tonight

Opinion from the FT's Editorial Board: 'The US and European countries that tout Israel as an ally that shares their values have issued barely a word of condemnation. They should be ashamed of their silence, and stop enabling Netanyahu to act with impunity.' www.ft.com/content/f5fd...

🆘The world must act, NOW “International law is unequivocal: As the occupying power, Israel must allow humanitarian support in,” said one UN official Israel has not allowed the entry of humanitarian aid since Mar 2, **the Strip is on the brink of total collapse** www.haaretz.com/israel-news/...

This nifty interactive graphic of Trump’s approval rating plummeting is giving me some solace right now. As is Canada. www.economist.com/interactive/...

25 hour speak-out today and tomorrow at Columbia. I’ll be there with other political scientists talking about democracy and due process from 7-8pm

Universities need to speak out about this and push back. It’s an assault on due process, and an assault on higher ed, that will make us stupider and less secure in the future

Happy(??) Earth Day to all who celebrate!

I feel like we need to keep saying this because it’s so insane: This is a legal U.S. resident who has been detained for over a month now for his political opinions.

Their incompetence with the Harvard negotiations is bad enough, but imagine what happens when the Trump admin sends demands they weren’t supposed to send to, oh, I don’t know, Iran, or China.

🏥HHS ELIMINATIONS💀 We have created a list of all agency and program eliminations proposed in the HHS 2026 Budget. Feds: Please let us know if you have any clarity to share. The cuts are massive. Reach out if you would like a PDF or xlsx @alt-hhs.altgov.info @altfda.altgov.info

The climate emergency is ongoing, the emergency of ICE agents snatching our neighbors off our streets and sending them to gulags is, if not new, newly intensified. Hit the streets this weekend. NYC friends: Saturday, noon, Bryant Park

What’s the opposite of rolling in their grave? That’s what Joseph McCarthy is doing right now.

Feels like this is one of those tipping point things we read about in history books sometimes. www.thebulwark.com/p/bring-him-...

1/4. On the White House’s theory, if they abduct you, get you on a helicopter, get to international waters, shoot you in the head, and drop your corpse into the ocean, that is legal, because it is the conduct of foreign affairs.

So turns out Columbia has also joined this lawsuit on IC rates, but weirdly (stupidly in my view) isn’t advertising it widely. Not sure if this is strategy or just piss-poor PR
