Generally speaking we are a welcoming people. Historically, not only have we had more immigration than the rest of the world combined, we are better at integrating new citizens than any other nation on Earth. Compared to many places our tensions between races/ethnic groups is handled well.

We are actually 11th in the world for educational attainment. So it's not a "complete lack" of education. You also forget that most of our worst politicians graduated from elite colleges. Education is hardly the only factor, nor a panacea.
