the discourse online around dragon age the veilguard has been SO insincere, reading some of this shit you’d think the game interrupts the combat every 20 minutes to ask you if you’re non binary 😭

People complaining that the series is woke have clearly never played the first game where you could be gay. My problem is mostly with the writing and some of the gameplay. Call me old school, but I miss the tactical gameplay Origins had.
Genuine criticisms getting overshadowed by sensationalist/ alt right/incel nonsense has been an issue growing for years. Twitter openly encouraging this shit made having genuine open discussions outright impossible, over there at least.
Blame the Baron of Filth Asmongold for that, I looked up the game awards to see who the nominees were and one of the top results was his fucking subreddit whining about Dragon Age.
I’m so happy this platform chases off all those grifters, no Grummz or Asmongold here to bother us
the thing that turned me off from even considering it (aside from the fact i have zero DA history) was less about (insert politics-rooted talking point) and more just that it looks genuinely unappealing to me in its presentation. same can be said for a LOT of newer fantasy stuff. lacks flavor for me
i’m 25 hours in and the game has way bigger « problems » than that, it’s not gonna win goty but none of the stuff MMO youtuber #24376 complained about happens in a non optional way, you control the things your character say
Veilguard gives me fully realized DA2 vibes with how the game handles exploration and instances. Gameplay is fine, I love origins as much as I love inquisition so there’s no set style in my head to work around. You can tell that a ton of work went into the companions, they make or break the game
I truly hate how poisoned gaming discourse/criticism has gotten with all the "anti-woke" ranting out of certain groups. Games can't just be bad, or flawed, due to regular problems like mediocre writing or bad pacing of story/gameplay, it can only be "Bad cuz woke".
yes it feels like the type of action adventure AAA games we’ve been playing since 2019, the game is flawed in a lot of ways but none of the people actually talk about the flaws
From the friend of mine who have played it, it's just a perfectly average game. Nothing terrible, but nothing great. People are so mad about shit that doesn't even matter.
yes exactly it’s the type of game you would easily recommend on sales to someone that has the itch for playable adventure game before online discourse got grummzified
Online discourse over games like these tire me, since most are arguments made with bad faith- instead of pointing out the actual genuine flaws in the game itself.
same, online game discourse has always been hell but it has never been has bad faith and insincere as it is right now on twitter, every game is a grifting point to prove
Then when the next game comes out that these guys don’t like, they tend to raise some of the older ones they hate up to a pedestal. Happened a bit with Metaphor, where people called the game “woke,” before using it to bash another “woke” game. I just tend to tune it out now tbh.
I just beat it the other day and plan to replay as a different class. It's fun. Not amazing, but fun is still pretty good. Plus I dunno what people expect from bioware they are the bisexual disaster hero game company. I mean that in a good way.
lmao dude I just talked to my sister this morning who is trans and she opened with "I support lbgt stuff but this game sounds too woke". She has of course not played it and I dont even like or care about the game but the weirdo narrative built around it so very bad.
Okay you know what, fair. I was like that. Proooobably still am in some regards.
But if I've learned anything, it's that anyone who calls something woke or mentions DEI is probably talking out their arse and hates me XD
I heard the pacing, repeated dialogue (find this person/stop this person) and awkward conversations as in story telling kinda brings it down a peg. But the character creation, combat and world are fantastic.
The only problem I have with the game is the dialogue isn’t that great. Especially the dialogue options you’re presented with. Other than that it’s a fine game
The ideology is there though. Like I played even Forspoken, but can't support Veilguard with money. Games were supposed to be more sexy and more edgy when liberals took over, but instead we get this weird new progressive morality with surgery scars that castrates fun to not hurt NPC feelings.
From everything ive seen, the only big problem is the writing isnt the strongest and could have done with far more polish to it to make it a little less clunky
I think the complaints about the writing are OD. Like idk, it feels like dragon age? It’s been like this. The story is great. Rook, Solas, Neve are some of my favorites in the series. I beat the game and the only issue I had with the writing is repetitive lines in the loyalty quests towards the end.

Not all fantasy games are BG3 (and that's for the best because we don't need more D&D in the world)
gonna have to remember that "it doesn't stop you every 25 minutes to ask if you're non-binary" line
the visuals, the mood, the mechanics (like moving more and more toward real-time until we're where we are now)
someone put it real well, where you can see the seams of the original "live service Dragon Age" as you play
Huh??????????????

The companions were charming; the game play was really fun to me and personally I love the art direction.
