Nothing going on in the U.S. is surprising me at all because this ongoing pandemic has taught me people are willing to sacrifice those even those closest to them for a hamburger in a restaurant

Yah it's wild; I can only see it as intense cognitive dissonance. Because people will be out sick for days. Describe a whole list of symptoms that sound exactly like Covid. Then vaguely say how "something" is going around and it's so strange because everyone has been sick and they don't know why.
I witnessed their willingness to turn Afghan kids to mincemeat rather than risk a cent more for gas going after the Gulf Arab countries who planned funded & carried out the attacks.
And none of them are willing to see it. They have been doing it for so long with other groups and doing it to disabled/vulnerable people was just another day for them. Only the people who already understood Covid and who it was killing, see it now.
It’s really weird and kind of terrifying living here and watching so many people just keep norm-ing it up. Like nothing’s happening, there’s nothing they can do, so might as well go to brunch. No one cares about much of anything much less anyone.

I still go out of my way to protect others and am thankful I'm not the only one. Thankful for Bluesky to see so many of you here!
And when I do the looks and skepticism I get-- even from my own husband sometimes- it's unreal.
I just do not understand.
And that makes me so sad. As I await the same fate in Canada with peepee
