I've been active my whole life, but it's within the past 4 months or so that I've been able to build a gym routine that I actually miss when I'm out of town. It's really nice to feel excited to get back into my workouts instead of dreading them.

It's taken years since I stopped dancing to find the motivation to move outside of a class schedule or rehearsal schedule. I feel really excited to have a routine again!
If moving your body more is something you want to do, I encourage you to experiment with a routine that feels like a "want to do" instead of a "should do". Try classes or solo workouts. Two days a week or four days a week. Cardio or weight training. Morning or evening.
Moving your body once a week is better than nothing at all! If the four days a week weight lifting schedule you designed for yourself feels like an impossible goal that keeps you at home, fuck it! Try yoga once a week. Try anything that takes the pressure off and allows you to enjoy your body!
This. These little things done over time go such a long way. Growing up in a house that wasn’t very body positive allowed for lots of shame around taking action that it became paralyzing. I started out small. I only did what I feel comfortable with.
It's a combo of things that all started working. To start, I love my gym. The vibes are good, there's plenty of equipment, and it's an easy commute. Second, I finally learned how to design a proper strength training routine. I lift 3 days a week.
I like the repetition and the ritual and nerding out over body mechanics. Third, I realized I'm a morning gym person. I just have to start my day with it or I don't go.
