To put it simply, the cops contacted the phone and internet service to send them the backup files they kept of everything she saved to her phone, that way if she deleted something the company has a backup of it the cops can look at.
It's a common tactic cops use to find evidence that is deleted.

Most phone companies (like Apple) and internet companies (Google) have backup data files of everything you store on their services, so if you delete something the company still has a copy of it, which is commonplace for user safety, security, and legal purposes, but can also be harmful for users too

I'm unsure, a company could ask cops for a warrant to force a cop to back off, but technically they are not legally required to demand a warrant to protect their users, and the company can be penalized/punished for impeding/hindering a law enforcement investigation.

They would likely have to have the phone in order to confirm what service she uses on her phone and as well prove they had the phone with the company among other things. Confiscating the phone makes it easier to get the company to comply with police demands.
