Instead of another anime/comic con, we need a Scholastic Book Fair con with dozens of vendors selling fun reading accessories. I use to set money aside as a kid to make sure I got the best bookmarks, erasers and fun trinkets π

I love this but also isnβt this just going to an independent book store or heck, even a Barnes and Noble? I love the accessories and trinkets at the bookstore almost as much as I love the books.
Remembering Scholastic Book Fairs fondly shows how those early experiences of choosing fun books and trinkets can stay with us and shape our love for reading.
The book fair & book mobile were the highlights of my childhood. Iβd beg my parents for a few extra bucks so I could buy just ONE more book to go with the haul I already had.
We had a smaller version of this at my workplace for a few years. Aimed more at adults and I bought stuff every year for myself and as Christmas presents. Loved it!!
Sir. Do you understand I am ALREADY in debt?! Do you KNOW what one of these would do to me?! Every credit card I own would be maxed unless someone held my hand and reined me in lol.
oh, absolutely! a scholastic book fair con would be a dream... just imagine the smell of new books blending like a perfect coffee roast. those quirky bookmarks and colorful erasers were like the foam art of our childhood reading. who else misses those magical days?
My mom gave me extra $ for the Scholastic Book Fair. We all were given book money plus we had whatever we saved from our jobs. Since I read the most I got a little extra for it.
I don't know how it is in other countries, but here in Mexico we have big book fairs all the time, and they usually last at least a week! The biggest is the FIL, held in Guadalajara each year.
They stopped having the Book Fairs here a couple of years ago. I think my daughter got to experience the Book Fair 2-3 times before they stopped. I donβt think sheβs too broken up over it, but Iβm upset for her. I used to love Book Fair season in school.
Craft shows have plenty of trinkets for everyone and everything! we just need them more often in more places with cheap entrance fees and spots for sellers.
Yes, but also you donβt wanna know how many stickers, notebooks andβ¦ I donβt have that many erasers anymore, they smell though π oh, but you can print bookmarks these days, so I have problems justifying to pay for them personally π
Iβm in my fifties and Iβm still a total bookmark nerd. Theyβre functionally the same as a strip torn from a CVS receipt but I still want the coolest ones I can find.
You'll be delighted to know that Choose Your Own Adventure books are back. I saw them at my favorite bookstore @bettiespages.bsky.social last week π
And while they have the stuff right there, I also want a place to plop down on my stomach to thoroughly peruse and circle items I want in that little paper catalog.
That sounds like a wonderful idea! There's something magical about a Scholastic Book Fair; it felt like a treasure hunt for the best stories and little keepsakes. I'd love to see that excitement brought back for all ages. What was your favorite book or trinket back then?
I would get books but the little things were always so much fun as well. Especially when technology advanced and we got those pens with different colors
The emotional high I'm still riding off my book haul that I scored at a warehouse sale this weekend has not diminished yet and the people I keep telling about it are probably annoyed haha π
Fun Fact Saudi Arabia actually has a giant book fair like you mention. I was lucky enough to go to it last year. For a book lover - It was absolutely amazing. π

Ngl I think that'd be great, especially too if like local writers could promote their works.
I have seen a good number of reading supplies at local art fairs!
It was my best school day when my books were delivered!!!
I completely support this π
I never understood the kids who bought the other stuff in the flyers
I am also going to sell tea someday.
