I don't drink or use drugs either. I don't like feeling like I'm not in control of myself.
I also prefer not to be around drunk people. It just makes me uncomfortable.

Having to serve duty as an MP in the Navy meant having to deal with all kinds of drunks. Everything from giggling tipsy to 'I can beat up everyone here!'.
And then there was the guy I had to chase while he ran naked through a baseball field.

My NEC or 'job' was avionics technician, but you also have duty sections where you stand a watch as a guard or other security. Mine was a 24 hour shift as a policeman. 48 hours if it fell on a weekend.

This is what annoys me when I tell people that I don't drink anymore:

"Oh what are you Mormon?"
"What's your problem?"
"You're no fun!"
"Get with the program!"

I just couldn't handle the pressure put on my by others in social situations, just because I had to go sober years ago.

I remember being 5 and during a drive-through bank my mom had me promise to not be a crazy teen or something. That plus tasting some alcohol my dad left in a Pepsi cup pretty much cemented my abstaining lifestyle.
Peer pressure was basically non-existent as I've had no peers, haha.

Hubby and I don't drink either, and have never done drugs (unless you count prescribed ADHD and trauma meds). 😊 Friends seem pretty cool with our choices, but hubby has been pressured by coworkers at office parties in the past. 🙄 (Tho not at their current workplace, thankfully.)

It shocks me that some people think you need substances to have fun, and I say that as someone who drinks vigorously myself.
Like, have they never been kids? What do they think people were doing before we discovered fermentation? Do they think crows are drunk when rolling on the snow for fun?

i've never did drugs and i stopped rinking in november 2023 because i got bored with it, also i was drinking 1 litre of jack daniels every 5 days and not even getting a buzz.

also when it was starting to cost 40 bucks a bottle it was getting expensive .. now my addiction is retro consoles and games

it's cheaper in the long run. Drinking is something I do to taste a concoction someone worked hard on. Marijuana is for pain. Neither are really for partying for me.

You don't need booze or drugs to have a good time good friends good atmosphere or even if on your own doing something you really enjoy us all you need. Those things can be added but not essential. Some of my best and weirdest experiences I've had I've been stobe cold sober.

I don't either. I mean, I've tried an edible or two, but that's it. Never drank, never smoked, never tried hard drugs, and never had any desire to, either. Both of my parents have addiction issues, and I'm not going to risk it. And yeah, people can do what they want; I won't judge. Each their own :)

yeah, my decision comes from both family history and personal experiences. I tired both alcohol and drugs once and both were unpleasant experiences for me, so a big nope to both. I will never understand why people drink and drug themselves to death just to have fun.

Me neither. Part of it is the "adiction in the family" thing, part is the fact that truly losing control scares the heck out of me (what if a hungry cat shows up? ...metaphorically) and part is the fact that I get so little sleep nomrally, I really don't need help to relax or feel woozy

I can't drink anymore and never particularly enjoyed it much anyway. I remember a time at a con when I was in my typical goofy "con mode" and someone asked me if I was drunk. Nah dude, I'm just like this. It's possible to be fun and silly without alcohol.

Years ago I was out with friends, they were all a bit drunk, and I was going along. Police stopped us and I was the guy they tested. Had to do the advanced test when the first one was negative. The others who were drunk were let go.
