I got in a big Twitter discussion with some screenwriters about this. They felt it was appropriate, on the basis that there was a pre-existing IP from which she worked. I don’t agree, as noted, but it’s their house and they think it’s the right category so I accept that.

The writers with whom I was discussing this felt very strongly both that this is the right category and that calling it an "adaptation" doesn't mean a writer should have to get paid less because of the need for a "Source by" credit under Guild rules. But as noted I don't agree with the first part.

The distinction is that Gosling was great in a role lots of people could have played well, whereas Robbie was great in a role that would be extremely difficult for most people.

She's a blonde bombshell: how could she possibly have SKILL, or INTELLIGENCE? Why would she even NEED them, beyond being able to memorize lines?

They probably didn't even realize it was HER IDEA IN THE FIRST PLACE.
