Absolutely maddening. In addition to Frederich Wertham's fear mongering of comic books, which also lead to burnings and banning. It's while how the memory of Nazi Germany fizzled so fast.
My mother-in-law was a survivor of the holocaust. Through her we learned the early rumblings of Hitler. All of our recent rumblings seem frighteningly similar…
It was allegedly an accident by Julius Cesar's troops after lighting the ships in the harbor. I don't know though, maybe Cesar was the original Make Rome Great Again and controlling enlightenment was gravy.
I mean the Book of Revelations is about Caesar leading Rome to its downfall, not an actual future prophecy. So yea. It's pretty much "he who matches the description of Caesar will lead his nation to ruin"
Ah.. this is propaganda from the golden age - pre Ayn Rand with her books which are weapons against ideas... so verbose they defeat the very purpose of communication. You have to put them up on the silver screen to see how fucking awful they are. Less novels so much as an ocean of words.

A book of a different feather 🪶.
On August 23, 1956, six tons of the printed works of psychologist Wilhelm Reich were burned, by court order, in a New York incinerator.
-Heinrich Heine
And ideas cannot be destroyed by fire.
-Parapharasing Alan Moore.
(Did you know "inflammable" means "burns easily," not "cannot be burned?")
