I'm not the biggest Trekkie so that's probably why I dig the Kelvinverse movies so much. But I think Star Trek 2009 is a legit great sci-fi film and Beyond is probably Justin Lin's best movie after Better Luck Tomorrow and Fast Five. Into Darkness is fine, not Abrams' worst film imo. - ThreadSky

I love Star Trek and I agree with you completely. The Kelvinverse rules (though TNG will forever be my favorite).

On a related note, I’m not saying Cumberbatch didn’t put on a good performance in Into Darkness, but I still feel that he was not the right choice to play Khan.

That’s a really good point! Change his backstory and name, maybe drop some of the really obvious Wrath of Khan throwbacks, and you’ve got a better film.

Keep Peter Weller as the secondary antagonist of course, he was great too.

I remember when Into Darkness came out there was lot of “which is better” talk between it & Iron Man 3.

I’d argue it was just a good summer for movies that year.
