An (extremely half baked) idea I’ve had for a while now is that a huge swath of people do not want to do any of the actual work of being a human being and computers in general and AI in particular gives them an excuse to do so, and it’s ripping our society apart because it’s explicitly antisocial

I suspect Derek was taking this view and on the vacation, the interpersonal time will be the actual trip in London -
Instead of doing that, people are doing anti-socialization like dumping an iPad on their kid, the above QT, etc
Where my beef comes in is the lack of connection
I would not have that problem because I know me and my friends - and actually have an interest in them and what they like
I really don’t like how “be antisocial” is an explicit product now.
Chatgpt would research friends' interests on their socials and result in a trip custom-designed for them, to the degree that their interests are represented in their feeds, search history, cookies, etc.
It's not the overworked parents who let their kids watch two hours of PBS instead of one that scare me. It's the ones who don't care.
I think we are over scolding people that probably need a breather here.
And that includes social activities.
We honestly might be cooked at this point in humanity and these people might genuinely be happier in the matrix.
But the struggle is what makes it worth it.
You're actually spot-on.
