That's pretty wild, I had no idea the FDA had issues with Adrafinil (which is a modafinil/provigil-like wakefulness drug, for those who don't know). It was widely available in the nootropics community like 5 years ago. You could get bottles of it online for like 50 cents a pill. Weird times.

it was gray market and its availability got cut after fda made it clear they considered it equivalent to modafinil. so it's like. dark gray market now since enforcement is toothless

yes. it's just extremely different, it (apparently) feels like being extremely awake and nothing else. also person i know who had a prescription turned out to be allergic, triggered their asthma the same way nsaids did

i think I’ve tried every stim and non stim adhd med except meth and that and currently on low dose ir adderall but found its very much a the best of bad options thing. i should talk to my psych about it next time

I'm on modafinil and it's had significant effects on my ADHD, fwiw. It's a night and day difference between thinking "i must have been working on this for half an hour" and looking at the clock to see that only 10 minutes have elapsed vs getting into a state of flow easily.

It's largely non-stimulant, though, so I'm sure the effects are substantially weaker than other mainstay ADHD drugs.

It looks like it. I've also never tried modafinil but am super-familiar with Adderall, I'm guessing that this would hit me like an energy drink but not much more than that.

modafinil has a totally different mechanism of action, it actually blocks the neurotransmitters that allow you to fall asleep. you can be dead tired but unable to sleep. apprently, unpleasant

That wasn't my modafinil experience at all. I had a prescription in college, because I was nodding off in class. I could take modafinil and go right to sleep if I chose to, but it kept me from dozing off while sitting still listening to a professor drone on and on.

It's differently-acting and the wakefulness-promoting effect may actually be on orexin receptor; at doses in the 100-200 mg range it feels a bit more stimulating but less jittery than caffeine, and not very much like amphetamine or cocaine

iirc the story here is a bunch of people died from an unscheduled fentanyl analog once and they were FURIOUS they could not prosecute the dealer/trafficker for the drug itself, only the deaths. so us designer drug law is extremely expansive
