Imagine basing so much of your public identity on your adult conversion to Catholicism, only to be publicly dismissed by the actual Catholic hierarchy.

Vance's conversion was handled by a Dominican rectory in WDC. Dominican=Torquemada, Inquisition. Jesuits=scholar philosophers (my instructors before I lapsed). Franciscans=hopelessly woke. Over-generalization, but with more than a kernel of truth.
