I am horribly bad at finances. I survive by being frugal except for my outrageously expensive hobbies and habits. Mostly online banking is tracking my spending in technicolor and identifying trends but I have never made a budget really besides adjusting my behaviour to monies or no monies. . .
I try always to like imagine 'SURPRISE BILL' like veterinary services or car trouble and try my very best to keep some money in the kitty for these unwelcome occurrences.
Yeah that's the other stuff I tend to spend big on too, very similar or ill have to use the credit card and then pay it off for 6 mos or whatever and eat Ramen (or similar equivalent) so I can
😬 I work lots of hours at a really good job that has decades of union shit and my life is in this perfect balance of monies in monies out to maintain a lifestyle with no debt besides the house. I only use the credit card to buy shit online I can already pay for and like pay it off immediately...
I'm actually living paycheque to paycheque and am pretty spartan: no trips, no renos or shit. Just maintain and occasionally splurge on stupid shit when there's a windfall like my vacation pay or a tax return.
Generally that's how I use but also emergencies and i had to replace my shop floor and have a tumor removed from one of the dogs over the last two months so currently just putting anything extra toward paying that down rn.
Yeah I have a similar budget strategy of just trying not to spend anything until I have some big thing like a trip I put all my savings toward at once. But I'm in ok shape as far as debt and would like to at least track expenses better. I think I'll just have to get used to rocket.
You don't have a fancy online banking thing? I'm in Canada and we basically have only 5 banks and they are gigantic terrifying institutions that are very much like the cyber stalker in William Gibson's Idoru. They keep crazy records and analyze them and show you their analysis online.
I use a local credit union and the app is fine but it doesn't do what I want it to. It really just shows me a graph of what I've spent things on. I wanna be able to set goals. And one thing I do like about rocket is they use my exiting bank data and come up with a projected bills calendar.
