The main things I learned from a few hundred masses were: give money to the poor, be good to others, give the church 10% of your income. My partner is a cradle Catholic and is just constantly ?!?!?! when I tell them about these people.

I was raised protestant, like, had Focus on the Family books/videos as a kid protestant, and they're also pretty unrecognizable to me

They converted to a religion that is mostly known for hating gay people and not being very fond of women, and also covering up a lot of sexual abuse of children. I used to think they converted because they didn't believe that stuff, but I think they might have converted because they did.

I went to a Jesuit university and we were constantly taught about liberation theology and how Christ came for the poor and oppressed. Even in the late 90’s we were taught the Christian thing to do is to accept all refugees. The right wing bros like Vance have ruined US Catholicism.

I’m gay and 47 so I agree with you. They do some really good things like in the late 19th they came out for unions and the right to strike. But we all are well aware of just awful they can be. It’s sad. I hope that as we are dragged through this fascism they start speaking out.

I always say that I grew up in the Jesus Christ superstar Catholic Church. Post-Vatican II. The younger of the two priests in my parish was a gay bear and rode a motorcycle. He and my mom were best friends for many years. 😂😂😂

I confessed to my priest in college, a Jesuit, that I was gay. He said I had committed no sin and to find someone to love. There are many priests like him. The Priests against this attitude are the ones that are mentally ill and abuse children. Fascist perverts.

9 years of catholic school (k-8) and four years of a Jesuit college education (which I will always treasure) and I completely agree. I stopped “practicing” about 7 -8 years ago when I just couldn’t see that I belonged there anymore
