I just used Cartographer to dump and Atlas to reinsert, but setting it up does require some background knowledge of how pointers work + I was incredibly lucky in that the proprietary compression format this company uses for their games has already been cracked and has a de/recompression tool for it

yeah just keep in mind it's a lot to digest! learning enough romhacking to be able to understand all this stuff was an incremental process that took a lot of taking breaks and coming back to it over the years so don't be discouraged if it seems too crunchy at first

You had like 90% of the tech stuff looked into anyways, but still, glad to help! Learning how to set things up for assemblers can be an awkward bit after all and it's much easier to work off some examples instead of trying from scratch.

(You cannot make the .exe any bigger or smaller than its default size too, anything that doesn't match the default size and it errors out entirely. I just BARELY had enough room to fit the game's full title into the window title with any kind of formatting too)

serious answer is that this game uses several different routines for text in different places and most of them needed to be completely retooled to not freak out if everything wasn't double byte aligned so there was some whackamole going on hacking in support for ASCII, haha
