I have really strong veins so it depends on the lab person. Luckily it only requires like one or two vials for me every few months.

nah it fr makes me sick, and i got nurses once who left as soon as they were done even though i had to rush for the toilet; they were gone when i was done.. it hurts so much more for seemingly no reason at all??

The answer is needle size! A vaccine needs to push a small amount of fluid in, so can use a smaller gauge (circumference) needle. For blood draws, we need a wide open channel to allow blood to flow more easily. Therefore, we use a bigger needle!

Definitely a fair point! For me it’s probably honestly just that i really hate veins and anything that touches them. I’ve gotten some injections with large needles and even those are just fine compared to venipuncture 😭😭

OMG, this is exactly me. I get woozy as soon as anyone starts touching inside my elbow or forearm. I have to have blood drawn 3-4 times a year and I still almost pass out each time. But injections? Pff, lemme roll my sleeve up, gimme a dozen, I don’t even care!

Also yah blood draws aren't for everyone, its a lil invasive and a bit direct! I'm desensitized because I work in blood, but anyone can get squocked by pointybits

Oh no! I work in the operating room. Similar attitude towards blood, different reason 😅.

I mostly know because I donated plasma for years. Very comfortable getting stuck now a days lol.

It's been a regular thing for me for (oh geez) 20 years now and mostly I critique the phelbotomist's ... phle... the bood draw person's technique and if they're kind enough to use a smaller gauge needle. Yeah. This is never to be considered a "fun" participatory activity.

The one I really can stand is an IV cannula because they're even bigger and often easier to accidentally watch. I've had dozens of needles in the last six months though so I've gotten able to manage them even if I still have a phobia

Back in elementary school, I hd to get my blood drawn every few months. Not entirely sure why, but I know I didn’t like it one bit. I can’t even look at the needle entering my skin

I find it depends on the phlebotomist. I keep telling them my arms are not going to be an easy site and they're better off going through my hand but they never believe me until they fail like 3 times lol.

You get used to it eventually. I've had so many blood tests due to hormone monitoring I now actually find it less unpleasant than some injections.

the pain! My veins are extra hard to get blood out of @.@ 3-6 stabs is the normal before they give up and send me to the hospital to get it done.
