I use surfshark. it's kinda annoying with how much it advertises its other products. The tech support people were very helpful when I was having trouble, even though I'm running linux.
Chiming in for NordVPN. If you have someone you trust with Nord, ask for their free month code, we all can generate one and it will get both you and your friend free additional months.
Adding one drawback I've heard about: it's hard to find a VPN company that won't hand over your data to authorities if asked. I've heard bad stuff about Nord handing over info. I had BlackVPN before, and they have a better record. I loved it, but it stopped working on my PC.
Mullvad, which has already defeated an attempt to get user data and followed it up by taking even further steps to reduce/eliminate any chance user data can be acquired.
Proton. I started using them as my main email service provider, and have been pleasantly surprised as they have expanded into cloud storage and VPN. Haven't tested any others, but I've had no issues using their VPN for all VPN things.
NordVPN is good I used them for a good bit, but eventually switched to TorGuard for their port-forwarding feature. I'm super happy with TorGuard currently.
Seconding Mullvad. I’ve heard it’s not very good for streaming, but it’s great for everything else. They also let you pay for time with cash in an envelope which makes them trustworthy in my book.
I shopped around for ages and finally just went with NordVPN. I think it was a tiny bit more expensive (like $50 for 5 years) but unlike the other ones I tried it just worked right away, and there are apps for it on all devices (e.g. Fire Stick)
