I will die on the hill of this being a correct take. The spacial awareness and low speed control, not to mention small size make the context of an intersection fundamentally different. Dumb to apply “one-size-fits-all” strategy.

"Cyclists are always running stop signs!" Yes they make no sense for us, legalize treating them as yields

And stop behind the crosswalk, cyclists, not in it.
"at least i'm not a car" is the best you'll get
understandably so, trying to not get hit by a car is real! but their (understandable) focus on self preservation can put others at risk

Automobile drivers look for automobiles. They only secondarily look for other things.
This increases the chance of surprise reactions by drivers, which isn't good.
Makes total sense for bikers, not so clear for everyone on the road.
Could or should drivers be better?
Do we really want to make traffic laws that challenge people to be better or hit the lowest common level of performance? Again, not a clear answer, it's an opinion either way.
But just from bikers perspective, yield totally works. And where bikers predominate traffic, that makes sense. Otherwise, it's just what level of community risk are you comfortable with.
