One of the issues I have with "cozy" and "unproblematic rep" is that it is, ultimately, fantastical assimilationist propoganda. I'm reading a popular, commonly-recced F/F contemporary romance with a desi trans FMC and a cis butch love interest.
I have to say, it's like ... a choice to kick off a fluffy, low-stakes story with a racialized trans woman being chased down an empty street by three dudes, one of whom is her ex.

the problem is the part where the work doesn't provoke any deeper thinking and instead functions as propaganda. which, extends to include a lot...
the typical "solution" to this is an "overcoming the trauma" narrative which still simplifies the experience & usually employs perfect victim type behaviors. which winds up again being propaganda.
