For me it wasn't any one particular game, instead it was two friends from university who kept inviting me to board gaming events.
We played Blood Rage, Eclipse, Catan, Love Letter, D&D, and many more.

Especially great when we first added Cities & Knights. The only truly required expansion for that game that elevates it in every way.
Fluxx: Zombies, Pandemic, Letters From White Chapel, and Dead of Winter were also early pick ups!
