No, but they did threaten to shutdown the government. The Democrats are also not going to shut down the government but they should learn to play the game. Being obstructionist worked very well for Republicans.

Those threats failed because, like Dems now, they lacked the leverage to make good on them. A shutdown didn't happen because Dems had their house in order. Reps don't now and a shutdown would be on them, that's Jeffries' point.

Also, 2022 was not a successful Republican midterm.

Republicans didn’t win as many seats as expected but they did win the House back. That is success no matter how you spin it. That aside, my argument is slightly different. If Republicans come begging for Dem votes then make it a very costly exchange.
