So many people in positions of power from which they could actually have a positive impact on reducing drug trafficking are insanely stupid and/or malicious in their policy making regarding drug trafficking.
Some of the root causes of drug use are uncontrolled mental illness, poverty and trauma. Republicans always focus on the supply which is like only treating the symptoms of a disease instead of the root cause. Republican policies will likely lead to increased drug and alcohol abuse.
Actually, he’s right; there is a huge business in cross border pharmaceuticals. Canadians actually subsidize American Medicare with cheaper pharmaceuticals.
Improve the quality of life in the US for underprivileged and poverty stricken and the demand for drugs used as coping mechanisms will fall too. The problem is HERE - tanking the economy with unhinged policies is only going to make demand for drugs sky rocket. Idiot.
Blaming Mexico and Canada for our drug issues is like putting a bandaid on a bullet wound. It distracts from the real issue and hurts the wrong people. Tariffs aren’t going to fix the drug crisis - but they *will* make life harder for people who have nothing to do with it.

2024 data shows USA has a large trade surplus with Netherlands, UK, Hong Kong and Australia but I don’t see them whining everyday about being treated very badly. Maybe if they slapped 25% tariffs on all US products then Trump’s little brain might see how little he knows about tariffs and subsidies.
Literally come from a border town and crossing from Mexico to US is now a nightmare, takes 2-4 hours to cross because they are taking people out of their cars and ransacking them for drugs that aren't there...this is such BS.
Technically true that drugs leave Canada into the USA. Canadians subsidize American pharmacare with cheaper drugs. Huge cross border business apparently. They send us cocaine, we send them to Shoppers.
Remember, it will also hurt companies that will no longer be able to afford the costs of importing the raw materials needed to make goods to ship around the world. They get hit twice. They will shutter and more people will lose their jobs.
