Yeah, I can't imagine why.... Oh wait, he's the President of the most powerful country in the world and we're a tiny little trading nation. Maybe that's it.
The man got fired for telling the truth? This can be corrected. Give him his job back. Co-president Musk fires people all the time and then scrambles to get them back, and trump doesn't care.
All right wingers love and admire authoritarianism, and they fear anyone who doesn't kowtow to it. Winston Peters has always been contemptible. The NZ electorate made a huge and revealing mistake voting this lot of incompetents anywhere near power.
"They do not represent the views of the NZ Government and make his position as High Commissioner to London untenable".
-So, NZ is no longer on my list of safe places away from an authoritarian regime.
Actually it is. We're a tiny foreign country at the arse-end of the world having to negotiate all of the complexities of geopolitics and global trade in our best interests, and you just had a hissyfit because we like our diplomats to be diplomatic when dealing with superpowers.
You’re stating I implied an expectation that you all get involved in our domestic politics (I did not), yet your argument is based in international politics. Not only is your argument incoherent, it still sounds like bootlicking.
Because your domestic politics would become our international politics. Would you like me to use smaller words? Call it bootlicking if you like, but that speaks to a Trumpian level of petty obnoxiousness and arrogance on your part.
Dude, you are wallowing in a category error. This has nothing to do with our position on Trump and everything to do with a senior career diplomat making an unauthorised inflammatory comment in a delicate situation. I swear you all suffer from main character syndrome.
Please don't try to impress the gallery with big words. The facts are clear enough: Here is a man, Trump, who goes after Western friends and allies and makes his bed with Russia. Your Ambassador to the UK was sacked simply because he made ONE REMARK seen as being critical. Balls, I say, balls.
No shock a far right New Zealand admin cozying up to Trump, an silencing his critics. Sad to see how far New Zealand has fallen under the current admin.
Some countries take the position of official representation in another country very seriously. Then, some presidents and representatives of so-called democratic countries openly show their imperialistic stance against their neighbors and allies.
Not unless they're all working for the NZ Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade as career diplomats potentially dragging NZ into an economically crippling trade war with an idiot, no.
New Zealanders! Please don’t act afraid! Trump is a shark who can smell blood and fear in the water. Show no fear. Step out and clean your guns on the front steps while he talks with you. That way he will know not to suggest that you give up the South Island just for grins.
That. But I honestly also think that old Winnie is desperately clinging on to power that’s slipping away with each moment, and so this was his last chance to “pay back” some old grievances against a former political rival. “Gotcha, you’re fired, ha, ha!!” Real mature.
Crap. Even Trudeau has was polite as pie to avoid this stupid tariff war until it was unavoidable. And no, we're not like Canada because we only have a population of 5 million and we don't break trade agreements to keep foreign dairy out of our markets.
We're polite; we're not pushovers. And supply management is our way of producing only enough dairy as we consume, maintaining fair and stable prices (unlike the US's skyrocketing egg prices), and protecting our small farms. It's a negotiated parts of all our trade agreements; we play by the rules.🖕

Do better for your constituents.

It's that he was right. Out loud.
Reversed priorities under the Luxon "government", right?
Please include more context
Censorship on the other hand, is fucking disgusting.
Resign. Now. You've just lost the right to speak for the people.
If you’re sacking people who question that, I question your grasp of reality.
Canadians, us, we tell it like it is and we don’t back down. Grateful that we have leaders that meet the moment.
But there's not the same cult of personality that Trump is using in the states.
Luxon will be one and done.
Mr. Peters you're qualified to run for U.S. office.

It's was even a polite questioning of Trumps grasp of history.
Absolute nonsense firing.
