my two cents - the worst case is when you fall between stools. It's okay to be super direct: "The relics are in the back of the chapel." It's not out of character for a character to remind themselves of a fact, out loud...

Game writers / ND's, do you have any techniques for avoiding "gamey" sounding dialogue? The sort of thing where self-talk, objectives etc. sound out-of-character and too clearly directed towards the player.

The 50/50 approach is flimsier. "There are relics in the chapel. They're too spooky! I don't like it," although a good VA will make it work.
