The basic libertarian argument is that capitalism makes everyone better off, even though there are relative "winners" and "losers." I'm not saying I believe it, but that's the argument.

I don't believe it either, but "a relatively loser who is better off" doesn't sound utopian to me.

It might be hard to right something that tries to articulate that idea because we are so tuned to local inequality even if everyone is better off.

Utopias are hard to write because pleasant, functioning societies are boring and where are the interesting stories in that? So many utopias are polemics and the dominance of rightwing examples in real life mean they don’t really need polemic. Utopias aren’t resource constrained, by choice or science

So there’s an argument that without fighting over resources a post scarcity society is inherently left wing, so utopias would be too.
Also, fiscally or socially conservative? Are empires inherently right wing? Is the regime in Memory of Empire a utopia? It’s admired inside and out…

Is the world of Little Fuzzy a utopia? At that stage of H Beam Piper’s future history the Terran Federation is expanding and doing well and it’s right wing enough that a corporation can own an entire planet if it has no indigenous sapient race.
