The factor is not being smart enough to understand that watching and enjoying a character =/= endorsement of said character’s behavior. It’s a media literacy problem.

Satire is a form of comedy that’s inherently anti-establishment. Distinct from sarcasm — which they DO understand — it requires an understanding of and appreciation for anti-authority subtext even when, at face value, it seems to agree with what it’s criticizing.

Walter White would bumble his way into the presidency by shooting Trump in the heat of a charged moment.
Rick would humble and humiliate him just because he could, not for any moral reason.
Dexter would strap him down.
Cartman probably would wear a red hat.

Even the potentially redeeming qualities of these characters are laughable.
As artistic expressions inspiring cynicism they may qualify as fuel on the fire, but there was definitely already a fire.
