Oh no. Kaya looks adorable when she lies down briefly on her cushion, but what she's doing here is testing out a potential nest bowl. Spring is NOT in the air, Kaya. Please don't start with unfertilized egg-laying. I'm not ready for this!

That’s funny! I was just wondering today if Kaya would have any interest in building a nest (like those pesky pigeons on my balcony 🤯). I guess she is getting ready for that!
I'm afraid so! We've seen our mentor's hawk (Kaya's half-sis) go through this, even laying on two unfertilized eggs for several weeks - delaying the molt and getting back into hunting shape. At least we know a bit about what to expect. 🥴
Last year she played with sticks, but she wasn't nest-testing yet. She won't be heartbroken; it happens in nature, too. They just eventually give up brooding.
The molt is losing and growing back all her feathers. Pretty much every one, though we pay most attention to her wing & tail feathers. 🙂
