I changed my way of approaching conversations and few people remained, those I now consider friends
It can be the style of communication, or growing a thicker skin, or simply enforcing boundaries.
None of that devalues you as a person though.
self-respect is important. I learned to say 'no' and it was the best medicine to saving my own energy from all this
If a no is too rough, then "hey I'd love to be there but I really don't have the space right now" is a good option.
