Chances are that any major food shelf, shelter, or community kitchen have been planning this event for the last year. Of course it doesn't hurt to call and check, but the likely outcome is that they don't need you this week and they might have even staffed out for the next couple months bc of this

If food is what calls to you, making it or serving it, tomorrow might not be the time but you can set a reminder in your phone to check back during a less "popular" month - and we can agree that there being trendy months for helping feels kind of gross, even though it's often unintentional.

You might also still be able to find some delivery openings for your neighbors who have, for whatever reason, difficulty leaving their house or other residence, or getting transportation to a central meal place. @nenookaasi.bsky.social could use food at camp, for instance!

Relatedly, this would be a great time to set up a single or recurring donation to a mutual aid organization. Our links are in our bio, but you should be able to find something in your area on Google too! Ask your neighbors and networks to find out who's the most consistent and reliable.

Money is always a good way to help, arguably the best way. You might not get the same warm fuzzies from seeing someone receive the food, but your $1 goes farther at an org that can wholesale canned food than at the grocery store.
