It's not clear from the article if they adjusted for equivalent driving conditions (day vs. night, weather, etc.). Autonomous vehicles may not be operating at all when conditions are unfavorable.

We had a free trial of the Tesla Full Self Driving (Supervised) software, twice and for a month each time.

I tried it four times total, never longer than 45 seconds before disengaging it. It’s a cruel joke.

These stats are somewhat meaningless for determining the safety of full self driving Waymo cars since their system still uses humans to remotely step in and drive the cars out of situations where they get confused. An accurate measure should include the human intervention numbers, otherwise its PR.

If you as a driver regularly get confused and need help out in a situation you will probably get your license revoked or a family member taking your keys pretty quickly. AVs will be the future but I've seen a number of times that Waymo vehicles do something completely mind-boggling.

they’re kind of acting like new drivers, still learning, but with far fewer accidents than new drivers. it is not very frequent that waymos need help. can I drive near them all the time my daughter uses them. they are great
