The John Williams theme played as a slow electric guitar solo was... a choice. I didn't hate it, but didn't love it. It matches the tone of the trailer, but lacks the majesty the trumpet brings to that melody.
(bias alert: the Superman theme was the main reason I chose to play trumpet as a kid)
The original lead horn on "Superman", who was the lead trumpet of the LSO and whom John Williams used as lead for every score he made with the LSO, passed away over a decade ago, and is still missed. :-(
