DeepSeek just told me I co-authored a book called "Sociolinguistic Variation in British Sign Language" (with Ceil Lucas and Rachel Sutton-Spence) 'a seminal text in the study of variation in sign languages'.
The only problem is no such book exists.
I thought it was supposed to be doing better?

Alas, millions of people get incredible benefits. Can't all be hallucinations.
I don't mean the AI that works behind the scenes analysing eg medical and traffic data.
What benefits do ChatGPT type end user interactive AI bring to anyone, that isn't based on stealing other people's work?
* Becoming very quickly familiar with new topics, tailored to your specific case and knowledge
* Legal advice, contract checking and help crafting legal documents.
* Language learning, getting personalized lessons
* Tons of help when coding and creating tests, database schemas
* Summarizing long texts with focus on what you care about
.. I could go on but you get the idea..
I tried it shortly and was pretty impressed compared to what I saw from gemini and chatgpt, but it still is only an transformer model.
Apart from those selling it.
It’s an uphill battle because outputs can seem “truthy” due to their adherence to norms of linguistic prestige, and overall air of confidence.
Fortunately, introducing the concept of “bullshit” makes the discussion spicy!
AI simply makes it easier to generate bullshit faster

Write the book
Better info?
Better price?
Better profit?
a new, efficient system is still not enough if it lacks datasets in specific topics, so yeah 😅
Could it have come from this?
