Pharma loves drugs that you are supposed to take forever. They do not love 5-7 day courses of drugs that you are encouraged to not take.

The traditional pharma drug development model doesn't work for antibiotics. Another model is needed (non-profit with massive multi-government help), but no one has come with something productive yet.
